Guernsey’s rugged coastal beauty, bucolic village life, and charming cobblestone capital offers artists endless settings shaped both by distant Britain and nearby France.

This is a small, private, artist holiday for 10 to 14 participants.

  • $1400 CAD per person

    Join French watercolourist Anne-Laure Jacquart for seven (7) workshop sessions. Sketch, paint, journal under the guidance of a wonderful painter and long-time friend of Going Places Together.

  • $2525 CAD per person

    Our most popular option. Share your accommodation with a travel companion or ask to share with another solo traveller.

Follow in the footsteps of Renoir who captured his Children on the Beach of Guernsey in 1883.

This holiday for Artists & Friends provides daily time for plein air painting in a public outdoor setting: garden, city square, farm, seaside, or other interesting locale. Workshop sessions with French watercolourist Anne-Laure Jacquart available for anyone interested in a guided experience.

Each day concludes with our own private gallery tour where artists display the day’s work for their fellow travellers to enjoy. Participation in the gallery is optional, but everyone is encouraged to share and celebrate each day’s progress.

Plein Air

The French term plein air means out of doors and refers to the practice of painting entire finished pictures away from the confines of a studio.

Day One - May 24

On arrival transfer to the Victorian-era estate Les Cotils. Set on a hill just about the town of St Peter Port, this quiet 24-room boutique hotel will be your base of operations during your adventure in Guernsey. Early evening gather with your fellow painters for a welcome walk into town.

Day Two - May 25

After a morning at leisure, join a local resident for lunch and a charming discussion of life on the Island. Bring questions or just sit and enjoy stories of a life well lived.

This afternoon sketch or paint in the historic city centre. Gallery on the terrace at Les Cotils before dinner.

Day Three - May 26

This morning sketch or paint in the harbour. Look out to Belle Grève Bay or back to the town’s busy market streets. In the afternoon join Nancy for a leisurely exploration of the St Peter Port.

Tonight before dinner, gather on the terrace at Les Cotils for a gallery of the day’s work.

Day Four - May 27

Today join Nancy and walk to Hauteville House, where author-in-exile Victor Hugo penned Les Misérables. Now a museum open to the public and owned by the City of Paris, Hauteville House offers interesting insight into 19th century island life.

Plein air painting this afternoon followed by a gallery on the terrace at Les Cotils.

Day Six - May 29

Day at Leisure in Saint Peter Port

Today is fully at leisure. Join Nancy for an impromptu activity or make the day your own. 

Day Seven - May 30

This afternoon join your host to capture springtime flowers in paint.

Victorian Candie Gardens offer spectacular views across St Peter Port harbour along with a rare example of a late 19th century public flower garden. They are home to the oldest known heated glass-houses in the British Isles, which date back to the late eighteenth century. In the gardens, aside from the beautiful flowers, lawns, and fish ponds, you will find a museum, art gallery, and a cafe housed in a Victorian bandstand.

Day Eight - May 31

Join your host and fellow travellers for a private coach tour that will circumnavigate the Island of Guernsey. Today blends rugged coastal beauty and rich history offering scenic cliffs, sandy beaches, quaint harbors, and a distinctive cultural heritage shaped by Britain and France.

Day Nine - June 1

Guarding the harbour since the 13th century, Castle Cornet took 800 years to complete. Today carry your paints and brushes through the main gate, past the outer wall and Barbican, to the Citadel.

Join your fellow travellers for a gallery tour tonight on the terrace of Les Cotils.

Day Ten - June 2

Your final day in St Peter Port. Make one last visit to the shops and restaurants of the city centre. Find a souviner of the Channel Islands to bring home.

Tonight join your fellow travellers for a gallery tour before joining Nancy for a farewell celebration.

Day Eleven - June 3

A final goodbye to your fellow painters and new friends before transfering to Guersney Airport and your journey home.
